Car methodology
EU EEA
European new car CO₂ data
Uses data for a specific car model from the European Environment Agency's monitoring of new cars registered in Europe. The EEA values are official type-approval figures from laboratory tests.
- Publisher
- European Environment Agency (EEA)
- Best for
- Cars registered in Europe with a known make, model and year
- Result
- One total per car trip
- Energy scope
- Based on EEA type-approval data
- Factor year
- Not selectable
How it works
- SQUAKE looks up the car from the manufacturer, model, model year and fuel. The engine size can be added.
- The EEA collects these values for every new car registered in the EU, Iceland and Norway.
Trip details used
When a detail is missing, SQUAKE uses the default.
| Detail | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Distance driven | From the route or rental days | Measured kilometres give the best result. |
| Start and end locations | None | Used to calculate the distance. |
| Rental days | None | Fallback only: 60 km per day. |
| Make, model and model year | None | |
| Fuel | Petrol | |
| Engine size | None | In cm³. |
Limitations
- Type-approval values come from laboratory tests and are usually below real-world emissions.
- The result depends on how well the vehicle details match the EEA data.
