Travel & Climate
Research-based flight factors from Travel & Climate, a calculator run by Chalmers University of Technology with the University of Gothenburg. The factors include fuel production and non-CO₂ effects, by cabin and for scheduled or charter flights.

- Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg
- Best for
- Footprints that include non-CO₂ effects
- Result
- One total per trip, for all travellers
- Energy scope
- WTW
- Non-CO₂ effects
- Always included
- Factor year
- Not selectable
How it works
- Distance comes from the airports, or from the actual distance where known. Factors vary by cabin and by type of service (scheduled or charter).
- The factors include burning and producing the fuel, plus non-CO₂ effects as a fixed uplift.
- The biofuel option uses the source's biofuel factor, with much lower emissions from producing and burning the fuel. Non-CO₂ effects still apply.
Trip details used
When a detail is missing, SQUAKE uses the default.
| Detail | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Origin and destination airports | Required | Trips with connections are calculated leg by leg. |
| Actual distance | Calculated from the airports | Replaces the airport-based distance. |
| Cabin class | Economy | |
| Service type | Scheduled | Or charter. |
| Biofuel | Not used | |
| Number of travellers | 1 |
What is included
Included
- Burning the fuel
- Producing the fuel
- Non-CO₂ effects (always included)
Not included
- Aircraft manufacture and airport infrastructure
Limitations
- Non-CO₂ effects are added as a fixed average, not per flight.
- Results already include non-CO₂ effects, so do not add another multiplier.
